Home > Why UTokyo? > Explore Our Campuses > Kashiwa > History of the Kashiwa Campus Explore Our Campuses - Kashiwa History of the Kashiwa Campus Kashiwa Campus In 1995 and later in 1998, the University of Tokyo acquired the land surrounding Kashiwanoha Park and other nearby areas in the northern part of Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture to use as the site of a new campus. The Institute for Cosmic Ray Research and the Institute for Solid State Physics were moved to this new campus, called the Kashiwa Campus, in 2000. Afterwards, the Kashiwa Campus became the home of several Institutes, Graduate Schools and Centers: the Biosciences Division of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences in 2001; the Transdisciplinary Sciences Division of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences in 2003; four affiliated centers (including the former Center for Climate System Research) in 2005; the Environmental Studies Division of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences in 2006; the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute in 2010; and some sections of the Information Technology Center and Institute of Gerontology in 2011.
