Overview Collapse Society, industry and personal life depend on Information Science and Technology (IST) in wider and deeper ways. Reinforcement of foundations and the creation of new ideas in IST are demanded. Advanced intelligent information systems that function as the brain and nerves of society should be furnished. It was to address such needs that the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology was established in April 2001. Six departments of our Graduate School ― Computer Science, Mathematical Informatics, Information Physics and Computing, Information and Communication Engineering, Mechano-Informatics, and Creative Informatics ― collaborate to lay foundations for core science and technology in the field of informatics. Graduate students who are willing to manifest global level leadership are cultivated, through systematic education of advanced fundamentals and research activities in IST. International research and education are promoted by collaboration with universities and research institutions around the world. We also provide an English Program in IST, to answer the needs of internationalized age, allowing students enrolled in the program to carry out their studies entirely in English, i.e., lectures in English, examinations in English, supervisions in English, and thesis writing in English. We offer sufficient courses in English to fulfill the requirements for graduation of each department. Those who enroll in the program will receive a degree certified by their department when they graduate, just as with other students in their department.   The Graduate School of Information Science and Technology is structured as an organic pool of the knowledge and intelligence of IST, and an innovative body of graduate education and advanced research toward the future.
